Food & Restaurants in Rhodes
The emerald gem of the Dodecanese is a destination for all tastes and whims, especially when it comes to its food and restaurants. The island offers an abundance of organic produce, starting with citrus and olives, and continuing to all kinds of meats, fresh fish and seafood, the tastiest vegetables you’ve ever tried, delectable specials with legumes, the island’s popular sesame seeds used in all kinds of dishes, and fragrant herbs seasoning everything that comes at your table.
The cuisine of Rhodes is inspired by the culinary traditions of the greater Mediterranean. You will find many of the traditional island dishes in the local tavernas, but also in higher-end restaurants that mix them among international favourites.
When you are dining in a traditional restaurant look on the menu for delicate Taramosalata with shrimp from the Simi island; parrotfish cooked to perfection; intoxicatingly-fragrant roasted eggplant salad; finger-linking tahini soup; chickpea pittaroudia (fritters); meliasti – feta with honey and sesame seeds; fresco psari, which is the catch of the day fish; giaprakia stuffed vine leaves; or anything else that catches your eye.
There are several international restaurants on Rhodes too. There are always choices.
At the Blue Horizon Restaurant at Leonardo Kolymbia Resort we feature the best flavours of the island and throw in international favourites for good measure. Ask us about traditional foods, and we’ll happily tell you everything we know about the local cuisine.
